Edmond Area and Community Information

Edmond is a thriving city located just north of Oklahoma City in central Oklahoma. As of 2010, Edmond was listed as the sixth largest city in the state. Also known as the "Crown Jewel" of Oklahoma, this gorgeous community was once listed as number one in CNBC's list of 10 perfect suburbs in America.

History of Edmond

Originally, what is now known as Edmond was nothing more than a train station that was built in 1887. The station was named after a man known as Edmond Burdick who was the traveling agent for the Santa Fe rail line. A town sprang up around the station during the Oklahoma Land Run of 1889. This town took on the name of Edmond, and it was during this year that Edmond welcomed its first school house and church. Soon, the city was exploding with new businesses, residential homes and more schools. In fact, Edmond's population went from just under 400 people in 1889 to more than 80,000 today!
